A Tribute To Allen Whitworth
Posted on Saturday, December 12th 2009  Bill Winegard delivered a moving tribute to Allen Whitworth, who passed away recently. Allen had been a member of our Rotary Club since 1959.
Bill referred to Allen as a real World War II hero, a Royal Air Force pilot who was shot down twice and rescued twice by the Royal Navy.
Allen Whitworth emigrated from the UK to Canada in 1955 and settled in Guelph in 1959. That same year he joined our Club.
One of the many projects Allen was involved in was the building of the Evergreen Senior Centre together with David Kennedy and Don Bower. The introduction of "Lifeline" to Guelph was another prominent accomplishment of Allen.
Allen Whitworth earned many awards for his hard work in Rotary and elsewhere. He will be remembered for a long time.
