Mayor Karen Farbridge Addressed Our Club

Yesterday Mayor Karen Farbridge gave us an overview of the various strategies the City of Guelph is using to negotiate the difficult years ahead. Guelph is included in the growth strategy of Ontario's Golden Horseshoe which will see a growth of 4 million people by 2031; Guelph will grow by about 54,000 people by 2031. The Mayor outlined Guelph's Growth Management Strategy which includes a considerable increase in people and living units in the downtown area.
The Mayor also mentioned the Employment Strategy which at present is fueled by 25 infrastructure renewal projects providing 5 years of work and a $72M investment by all three levels of government. Included in future works are the Hanlon Creek Business Park phase I of which is starting now and the future Ontario Enviro-Innovation Centre on York Lands.
Finally, the Mayor outlined the City's Fiscal strategy which includes strict rules on capital project spending.
